Tableside Magic w/ Samira & Indy Raqs: 11am-12:30pm
In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore how to confidently dance for the audience not AT the audience to create those unforgettable moments that make live bellydance so magical.
We’ll cover working the room, reading the crowd, improvising with live musicians, accepting tips gracefully, inviting guests to dance, and keeping the energy flowing from one table to the next.
Through playful exercises and real-world scenarios, we’ll also focus on the part that doesn’t get taught nearly enough: mindset. You’ll build confidence, practice thinking on your feet, and learn how to turn nervousness into genuine connection so you can leave feeling comfortable, capable, and ready to bring your dance to life in any social event or restaurant setting.
Fearless Finger Cymbals with Athena: 1pm-2:30pm
Finger cymbals can feel intimidating, but they don’t have to be. In Fearless Finger Cymbals, Athena—an accomplished finger cymbals player with years of experience performing with live musicians—will help you approach this instrument with confidence, curiosity, and freedom.
Many dancers struggle with finger cymbals because they believe there’s only one “correct” way to play them. While strong technique is important, Athena believes the instrument should ultimately serve your musicality and artistic expression. In this class, she’ll introduce four different perspectives she shifts between while playing finger cymbals, each designed to support different musical goals, artistic choices, and performance moments.
You’ll develop stronger technique, deepen your understanding of rhythms and musical structure, and gain practical tools for making confident musical decisions. Rather than memorizing one rigid approach, you’ll learn multiple ways to think about finger cymbals so you can find the style and mindset that best supports your own dancing and musicianship.
This class is designed for all levels. Beginners will leave with a solid technical and musical foundation, while experienced dancers will discover fresh perspectives and new challenges that can elevate their playing. If you’ve struggled with finger cymbals in the past, come ready to see the instrument through a new lens and leave with practical strategies to overcome those roadblocks.
Please bring a pair of finger cymbals. Athena will also have a limited number of pairs available to borrow.
